Both our restaurant and our cuisine have rich histories...

  It all began during a pleasant sunny day in Columbus, GA while I was tending our vegetable garden during the summer of 2005.  You see, it just so happens that my wife is exceptional at grilling. (Sorry folk’s it’s a fact.)  In fact, she is famous on my side of the family with regard to her barbeque!!  However, it is a combined effort because I would improvise on “off the shelf” sauces, so it was but natural for my mind to wander in the direction of a good barbeque.  On this day I decided to experiment in the kitchen and try my hand at preparing a sauce from scratch.  By the end of the afternoon I had a sauce ready for the grill (Michelle insists I add, “…and had dirtied every utensil in the kitchen and then some”).  This was followed by experimenting with rubs and marinades.  During this time period I was also looking at having a Soirée at the hotel and decided to serve grilled wings.  However, I did not know how to grill so thanks to my wife helping over the phone, constantly calling to check on my progress, I was able to grill my first batch of wings.  It wasn’t long before people were asking me why I was not in the restaurant business.   I began toying with the idea and was suggested a name, “CALANA,” for the restaurant by combining my son and daughter’s name, Caleb & Alana.  This was followed by the founding of Calana’s Ltd. Co. by H S Guron during August of 2006.  Currently I am familiarizing people with the unique flavors of Calana’s since the food is unlike anything anyone has tasted in restaurants.  In fact, my mother watched me making the sauce and said, “No one puts that in sauce….”  So I provided her a sample to taste and she said, “Okay, now I will not try to correct you!” The menu consists of familiar foods but the flavors are unique to Calana’s!!  After all, the idea of having a good hearty meal is a centuries old tradition for the Guron family of Ladhran!  Based on my above average travels, especially since I was a commercial pilot for 15 years, I had an opportunity to break bread in some of the finest restaurants that don’t necessarily make it into the mainstream media.
